HR&SS were very proud that the Chair of our Board was asked to present at the NDIS rally. Tricia Malowney, a systemic advocate and tireless volunteer on a number of boards and committees, spoke passionately about the needs of people with disability. In particular, Tricia highlighted that people with disability represent 20% of the Australian population and as such it is time that we stop treating them as a special segment of society and start recognising they are just part of the broader population.

All of the team at HR&SS wholeheartedly agree and can't wait until we see widespread implementation of universal design for housing and public buildings; proportional representation of people with disabilities in employment, public office and community activities; and a whole ream of other 'ordinary' accomplishments!

We'll be uploading a video of Tricia's shortly - keep an eye out on this website!

HR&SS supports the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

We have signed up to ensure that Every Australian Counts and we encourage everyone to do the same.

The NDIS is not a luxury and cannot wait until a better time, a better economy - lack of support for people with disabilities is a real issue affecting real people every day.

Many people are talking about the cost of the NDIS however, we need to look at the cost we are currently paying by not providing people with disabilities the support they need to participate fully in society. This cost includes increased hospital and care costs, increased crisis and transitional accommodation costs, and a loss of important contribution to economy through low participation in the workforce by people with disability.

HR&SS is committed to empowering solutions for people with disability - and that's why we support the NDIS!

HR&SS acknowledges the Wurundjeri clan, the people of the Kulin Nation, who are the custodians of the land this region covers.  We pay our respects to them, their culture and their Elders past, present and future .

Welcome to Housing Resource and Support Service!

HR&SS is an innovative, dynamic, not-for-profit service working to enable people with disabilities to participate in the greatest range of life choices, as active community members.

With more than 25 years' experience supporting people with disabilities to determine and chase their own dreams, HR&SS is unique in that it was originally established by a group of people with disabilities to enable themselves, and others, to transition from institutions to independent living. HR&SS continues to be governed by a Board of people with disabilities and, as the barriers to independence and participation in society change, we develop and provide flexible support services aimed at meeting these changing needs.
